CHALLENGING IS THE MAKING; SATISFYING IS WHEN YOU SEE IT ALL WORK AND LOOK HOW YOU WANT TO!
Charlie le Mindu’s hair creations are the substance of dreams. Surreal dreams. The pluridisciplinarian artist not only has his way with our heads — literally — but also our bodies, with his complete looks of conceptual wearable art. But the man who created groundbreaking wigs for Lady Gaga, a regular collaborator of Nicola Formichetti, and hair looks creator for the Dumb and Opluence music videos by King Kong cover girl Brooke Candy, is more than just that.
Taking a cue from high theatre, Le Mindu dons masks as a way to transmute himself into a creature of primal animus. ‘I have a fetish with suffocation, this is why [the masks], but also I need to show and make people understand that I’m not only a hairdresser, but a performer.’
This time, however, the focus is on himself. ‘It was just fun, that’s it; I wanted to take some selfies and be in the skin of a Kardashian bitch, and also be like “I could be in a mag too”,’ says Charlie. ‘Challenging is the making; satisfying is when you see it all work and look how you want to!’
