London-based photographer Jenny Brough teams up with stylist and Fashion Editor for Another Man, Peghah Maleknejad, to give us “Pleasures of the Flesh”, a strangely seductive and transgressive experience. Inspired by our theme of The Uncanny, Brough and Maleknejad set out to explore the subject of identity, playing with gender norms and social pressures and gleefully subverting them. Why shouldn’t a man wear makeup if it makes him feel more like himself? And why should a woman shave her armpits when she loves the sensation of hair?
Brough’s photography generally favours portraiture and her subjects here—Billy Turnbull, Lewis Taylor, Isobella Bowering and Robyn Fitzsimmons—are portrayed as defiantly regal whilst they display their disobeyance of society’s rules.
